PURPOSE: To obtain a fiber-reinforced pellet structure by extrusion-molding a thermoformable fiber-reinforced structure containing a thermoplastic polymer and a specific amount of reinforcing filaments arranged in parallel. CONSTITUTION: This fiber-reinforced pellet structure is a thermoformable structure which is 2-100 mm long and contains at least, 30 vol.% and 50 vol.% reinforcing filaments aligned in parallel. In addition, the pellets are shreddings obtained by cutting the structure, manufactured by a continuous process, which contains filaments impregnated and wetted with a fusible, thermoplastic polymer at a nip formed by the filaments stretched under tension. Further, the pellets have a flexural modulus in a longitudinal direction which is at least, 70% of a theoretically achieved flexural modulus. It is possible to mold the pellets into molded products containing the filaments which are randomly dispersed and maintain their proper shapes individually, at least 50 wt.% of the total filaments being 2 mm long. |
