An aqueous sample containing methylenebisthiocyanate or another compound capable of releasing an aldehyde is assayed by determining the amount of aldehyde released by conversion, e.g. with respect to a sample from which existing aldehydes have been separated. An aqueous sample containing glutaraldehyde or another aldehyde having at least 2 C atoms is assayed by adding an agent which gives a water-insoluble complex, and determining the amount of complex or, after regeneration, the aldehyde. |
