<p>The apparatus includes a sub 27 having nuclear detectors (74, 76) and associated electronics (166) mounted in a chamber 30 in the wall of sub, with a removable cover 42 attachable to the chamber. Further chambers 32, 34 with covers 44, 46 may be provided for further circuitry, and a bus (78) for delivering power and signals may extend throughout the sub between its ends. The bus (78) may terminate at a modular ring connector (86) at each end of the sub (27).
