摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain an electro-optical compsn. having high fracture toughness and a secondary optical coefft. nearly equal to that of PLZT by forming a solid soln. having a compsn. represented by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A solid soln. of lead titanate in lead magnesium niobate having a compsn. represented by a formula (1-x)Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-xPbTiO3 (where 0.05<=x<=0.40) is formed with oxides of the constituent elements, carbonates, sulfates or other inorg. acid salts, alkoxides, organometallic compds. or multiple oxides as starting materials. Novel transparent ceramics having an electro- optical effect comparable to that of PZT composition ((Pb1-xLax)(ZryTiz)1-xO3) obtd. by substituting La for part of Pb in a PZT compsn. and also having high toughness is obtd. and an electro-optical device having high durability and hardly causing damage even after driving with signal voltage having high frequency is produced.
