PURPOSE:To prevent aging deterioration, to suppress adsorption of acid component and to improve weather resistance and durability of a magnetic recording medium using the ferromagnetic metal powder by coating the particle surfaces of the powder with compound containing Ta. CONSTITUTION:20kg of iron powder containing Si having 0.5mum of average diameter, 10 of average stylus ratio and 3.5wt.% of Si content is added to 300l of 0.3wt.% hexane solution of tantalum ethylate [Ta(OC2H5)5], agitated at an ambient temperature for 2 hours, and reacted with OH group on the surfaces of metal iron powder particles. Then, it is filtered to be separated, and dried in vacuum to obtain ferromagnetic metal powder in which the particle surfaces of the metal iron powder containing Si is coated with the tantalum ethylate. Then, the obtained powder is used to form a magnetic tape made of predetermined composition. That is, the particle surfaces of the powder is coated with the compound containing Ta to prevent aging deterioration of the powder, to suppress adsorption of acid component and to improve the weather resistance, durability of a magnetic tape obtained by using the powder. |
