A method of attaching a fixation member (15) to an optic (13) comprising providing the optic (13) with a cavity (25) opening adjacent the peripheral edge (23) of the optic(13) and with a shoulder (29) in the cavity (25), inserting an inner end portion of the fixation member (15) into the cavity (25), transmitting laser energy through the optic to the inner end portion of the fixation member (15) to cause the inner end portion to become flowable, and allowing the flowable portion of the fixation member (15) to harden and interlock with the shoulder (29) to resist withdrawal of the fixation member (15) from the cavity (25). |
