The nucelar fuel rods are permanently marked with a code with an unique identity comprising figures or letters and which is directly readable during and after reactor drive. All characteristic data for the fuel rod is connected to the code. The fuel rod comprises an encapsulating tube, a top plug and a bottom plug where the bottom plug or both the top and bottom plugs are connected to the encapsulating tube before marking. The code with which the fuel rod is to be marked is then determined and the top or bottom plug is marked with it an automatic marking unit. At the time of marking all characteristic data for the rod is automatically coupled to the code. - The code is determined by reding using a camera by means of which a bar code is read on the encapsulating tube. The bar code is read inside a capsule in which infrared lighting is arranged or, alternatively,. one or more light diodes. |
