PURPOSE:To increase the luminous efficiency and intensity of a cell by providing a fluorescent substance with the preset shape and size in the discharge cell space of a DC gas discharge type color display panel. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent substance 42 is arranged on a back plate 32 side, for example, of a discharge cell space 40 formed with a front plate 30, the back plate 32, and bulkheads 38. A cathode 34 and an anode 36 are arranged on the side of the front plate 30 and the back plate 32 respectively. The fluores cent substance 42 is formed into a massive shape, the width of its face parallel with the front plate 30 is set smaller than the distance between the bulkheads 38, a gap 44 is generated between the massive fluorescent substance 42 and the bulkheads 38, and a discharge is generated between both electrodes via this gap 44. The area of the fluorescent substance 42 radiated by ultraviolet rays generated by the discharge is increased, and the radiation area is kept substantially constant even if the fluorescent substance 42 is moved. |
