PURPOSE:To ensure that data is recorded properly in accordance with the type of a medium for recording by providing a recording device having printing modes which are selectively used based on the detected type of the medium. CONSTITUTION:A medium for recording 2 is sent from a cassette 7, then a subscan motor 9 is driven to rotate paired transport rollers 10a, 10b and paired discharge rollers 11a, 11b. Consequently, the medium 2 is transported to allow a carriage 4 to run for the detection of a sheet width using a sheet width sensor 14. In this case, the sensor 14 interprets whether the medium is a plain sheet or an OHP sheet. Then if the medium 2 is determined, data is recorded in the printing mode for plain sheet. On the other hand, if the medium 2 is not determined, data is recorded in the printing mode for OHP sheet. In addition, a pulsed drive signal is applied to an electricity/heat converter in a liquid path filled with ink according to image information. At the same time, the growth and contraction of bubbles takes place and ink is discharged for recording to the medium 2 from the orifice section of a recording head 1a. |
