The invention relates to a system for submerging containers containing products and for forming stacks of empty containers, of the type including: - a conveyor (1) for supplying the full containers (2); - a carriage (6) for transferring the said containers, located at the end of the said supply conveyor and capable of being displaced along a structure (7) in order to transfer each full container into a tank (9) in which the said products are submerged; and - a conveyor (10) for discharging each of the empty containers which are supplied there from the tank by the said carriage. The system comprises controllable gripping means (11) associated with the said structure in order temporarily to keep an empty container (2) originating from the said tank (9) in a standby position, so that the empty containers supplied one by one by the said carriage (6) can form a stack of empty containers held by the gripping means (11), the said stack then being transferred towards the discharge conveyor (10) by actuating means (12) associated with the said carriage. <IMAGE>
