PURPOSE:To obtain effective lateral power follow-up property by providing the automatic zooming device with a forecasting means for forecasting a value corresponding to the distance of a zoom lens having a previously set lateral power and a control means for controlling a zooming speed. CONSTITUTION:A central processing unit (CPU) 20 for controlling the automatic focusing (AF) and zooming of a zoom lens 10 inputs a range finding value indicating the distance of an object from an AF sensor 22. A value corresponding to the distance of the object after the lapse of the prescribed time is forecasted based upon values corresponding to the current and past object distances. The focal distance of the zoom lens having the previously set lateral power is found out based upon the forecasting value and the zooming speed is controlled so that the found focal distance is obtained after the lapse of the prescribed time. Consequently, automatic zooming having high follow-up property to the set lateral power can be attained. |
