PURPOSE:To obtain an epoxidized substance of the title derivative useful as an intermediate for drugs, agricultural chemicals, etc., in high selectivity and in high conversion ratio by epoxidizing dicyclopentadiene mono-ol with hydrogen peroxide in an alcohol solvent in the presence of a specific catalyst. CONSTITUTION:For example, a reactor is charged with hydrogen peroxide in an amount to give a molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide to a compound shown by formula I of 1:0.5-3, a catalyst (e.g. SeO2 or MoCl2) composed of selenium compound, tungsten compound or molybdenum compound in an amount to give a molar ratio of the catalyst to the compound shown by formula I of 0.1-0.001 is dissolved, then 0.5-5ml based on 1g of the compound shown by formula I of a solvent of alcohol is added, the compound shown by formula I is dripped and reacted with hydrogen peroxide preferably at 2-50 deg.C for 1-48 hours. After the reaction, the alcohol is removed, the reaction product is extracted with a solvent such as dimethyl ether, neutralized, cleaned and distilled to give the objective compound shown by formula II. |
