PURPOSE:To provide a practical cosmetic having the efficacy of glutathione and not generating any unpleasant odor when used, by compounding a glutathione clathrate compound formed with alpha-cyclodextrin and/or beta- cyclodextrin. CONSTITUTION:1 pt.wt. of glutathione is formed into a clathrate compound with 0.5-15 pts.wt., preferably 1-8 pts.wt., of alpha-cyclodextrin and/or beta-cyclodextrin and the prepared clathrate compound is added to a cosmetic material to provide an inexpensive cosmetic not generating any unpleasant odor, capable of being utilized also, as a material for cosmetics, corresponding to an intention to natural products and having the efficary of the glutathione. Although many reports such as the detoxification of toxins or foreign matters in living bodies, the prevention of radiation disorders, the suppression of lipid peroxidation with glutathione peroxidase and the inhibition of the formation of melanine dyes are reported, it has been difficult to compound the gluthathione for commercial cosmetics because of generating unpleasant odor when used.
