An opening and closing device engages the two front panels 21 and 22 and one side panel 11 in a soft container 10 of essentially parallelepiped shape, being known as a "gusset" type, designed for the loading of flexible articles 2 arranged in rows and compressed in one direction. Said device defines a cap-type opening zone 30, situated in approximately the first upper third of the container toward the handle 23, bounded by a continuous line 40 of weak sections 44 that extends with a curved progression on the front panels 21 and 22 and a straight course on the side panel 11 situated between said two front panels.
