The device comprises a combustion chamber (20); a tube (10) opening into said combustion chamber; devices for inserting a core of fusible material into said tube, such as submerged arc guns (30) simultaneously ejecting two half-cores of fusible water (N01, N02) respectively towards the two opposite ends (17, 17) of the tube; a device (11, 12, 13) for applying, to the core of fusible material in the tube, a pulsed electrical current discharge which produces therein an electrodynamic pressure which causes it to be expelled (N1, N2) at hyperspeed out of the tube and into the combustion chamber; a device (40) for placing a mass of fusible material (N3, N4) on the trajectory of said core so as to cause the core of fusible material and the mass of fusible material to collide and set off a fusion reaction; and a device for collecting the energy thereby produced.
