This engine is of the type comprising a cylinder block (1) and a cylinder head (2) each one delimiting at least one chamber forming part of a cooling liquid circuit, that part of the circuit situated in the cylinder head being located upstream with respect to that part of the cooling liquid circuit located in the cylinder block. According to the invention the cylinder head includes a longitudinal separating partition between two longitudinal chambers (8, 9) for the cooling liquid, these two chambers being connected together (at 14) close to a first end of the engine and being connected, close to the other end of this engine, respectively the first one (8) to a cooling liquid inlet pipe, and the second one (9) to a chamber (5) in the cylinder block, the first chamber (8) being located on that side of the cylinder head where the exhaust valves are located. <IMAGE>
