PURPOSE:To obtain a chlorinated vinyl chloride copolymer resin which can form a lowly viscous transparent solution by chlorinating in a state of an aqueous suspension a specified vinyl chloride copolymer resin prepared by copolymerization in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator in an aqueous medium. CONSTITUTION:Vinyl chloride is copolymerized with a 6-16C alpha-olefin in an aqueous medium in the presence of an oil-soluble polymerization initiator to obtain a vinyl chloride copolymer resin having a vinyl chloride component content of 99-80wt.% and a 6-16C alpha-olefin component content of 1-20wt.%. This copolymer resin is chlorinated in a state suspended in an aqueous medium to obtain the purpose copolymer resin. The 6-16C alpha-olefin has an active hydrogen atom at an allylic position and easily undergoes chain transfer, so that it has a function of lowering the degree of polymerization of the copolymer resin to be formed. Suspension polymerization, solution polymerization, precipitation polymerization or the like can be adopted as a process for performing the above copolymerization, and especially suspension polymerization in an aqueous medium is desirable in respect of overall production cost. |
