<p>A real time health care insurance administration and medical information utility which includes a service provider terminal (18) in two-way, on-line communication with a central processing unit (3) and updatable central data base (6). The service provider terminal (18) includes a card reader for inputting group member identification data and means in the form of a keyboard for interrogating the central data base regarding the plan eligibility of the group member and the reimbursement provided by the plans for various proposed treatments, as well as a screen for displaying data responsive to the inquiries. A benefit sponsor such as an employer is also provided with a terminal (185) in two-way, on-line communication with the central processing unit so that the eligibility status of the group member may be updated on line.</p> |
