A process is disclosed for operating a remote controlled central locking installation of motor vehicles by means of a transmitter able to transmit coded signals - for example, acoustic ultrasonic signals, optic IR signals and/or USW-high frequency waves - to a receiver arranged in or on the vehicle. When the central locking installation is operated for the first time, it is initialised, or it is re-initialised before it is operated again in order to cancel the previous code. The code that will be used in the future, or when the code is changed the new code that will be used in the future, is set for the first time or reset by placing the receiver, for example by means of a special control code, in a state in which it can be (re)initialised. During (re)initialisation, the receiver activates a display that is already available in the vehicle in order to indicate that the receiver is in a state in which it can be (re)initialised. |
