Due to wear of the clutch plates the face (5a) of the pressure plate (5) can move forward to a position (10) that represents the permissible limit for optimum performance and life. Movement of the pressure plate beyond this point is prevented by the underside of the head (11) of the rivets (8) abutting against the cover plate (4) of the clutch. The three rivets (8) equally spaced around the edge of the pressure plate connect it by leaf springs (6) to the cover plate, permitting axial but not torsional relative movement. By means of a simple setting fixture the pressure plate is located in the extreme position (10) relative to the cover (4). The specially shaped heads (11) of the rivets (8) are then deformed against the cover by applying pressure with a cup headed punch, thus limiting the clutch travel. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple and economical method of accurately setting limit of clutch travel before assembly into engine. The clutch operates independent of piece part tolerances.
