A warp knitting machine incorporates a knitting needle bed and guide bars. The two front guide bars are Jacquard bars featuring guide needles which each can be transposed by the extent of a knitting machine gauge through displacement components operated by Jacquard control devices. The racking control devices dislocate the Jacquard guide bars in the direction of a tricot structure. The Jacquard control unit of the first Jacquard guide bar dislaces a proportion of the needles in the direction of a fringe structure in practically every knitting cycle. However, the selection of the displaced guide needles changes within a pattern. Some knitting needles remain unoccupied by the warp ends of the first Jacquard guide bar and the guide needles of the second bar are controlled in such a way that the knitting needles left unoccupied in the above mentioned manner are occupied together with additional knitting needles. ADVANTAGE - The machine produces knitted goods with stable surfaces and a novel type of surface patterning.
