A ringspinning frame has automatic surveillance of the travellers. Sensors on each unit send signals via a multiplex device. The analogue output is converted to digital, and transmitted to a central processing unit. The travellers along the frame (1n) are numbered according to the units on the frame. Each unit has a sensor (2n) which produces an analogue signal. The switch (3n) is activated at each unit in turn by the multiplexer (4). The analogue signal produced from each switch is converted to digital in the device (2). Because of the extremely rapid switching, interference patterns may be generated. These have to be filtered out (5) and the essential signal produced in square waveform (6) with an adequate signal over a period of time from each traveller. ADVANTAGE - The information received from each traveller in turn, not only demonstrates the presence of yarn, but the respective speed of yarn flow.
