The compsns. (I), based on (A) resins contg. amino gps., or OH and amino gps. and gps. capable of forming ester and/or amide gsp. with carboxylic acids and (B) hardeners capable of transesterification and/or transamidation, are prepd. by 1) freeing (A) from solvent 2) diluting residue with water-soluble solvent of b.pt. below 100 deg.C 3) mixing diluted residue with (B) at temp. such that (A) and (B) do not react 4) at least partly neutralising the amino gps. with a water-soluble acid 5) diluting with water and 6) removing the organic solvent from the aq. dispersion under reduced pressure at moderately elevated temp. Pref. (A) is polymer of alpha, beta-unsatd. monomer contg. hydroxy- or amino-ester of olefinically unsatd. carboxylic acid, a polyaminopolyamide from dimerised fatty acid and a polyamine, or an aminopolyether-polyol from an epoxide resin and a prim. or sec. amine, Water-sol. solvent is lower alcohol or ketone, partic. MeOH, EtOH, iso-PrOH, acetone, or ethyl methyl ketone.
