The localised heating is achieved by a heating device incorporated in the road surface when the road is first laid, or when it is repaired. The heating device may use an electrical resistance heating element, or heating pipes filled with a fluid medium possibly supplied from a nearby power station. The heating may be controlled automatically in dependence on the detected temp. of the air and/or the air humidity in the vicinity of the road surface. ADVANTAGE - Not reliant on human judgement.
