The hand-steered sweeping machine has a rotary brush, mounted in the chassis (1), and deliverinq into a detachable dirt hopper (9), together with a filter housing (15). The outlet from the latter is adjacent to a suction fan, while its inlet is above a top opening in the hopper. There is a dust seal between them. The hopper is secured at the side to the chassis (1,1'), and is removable from it in the forwards direction.
