A polyimide compound having a carbazole skeleton in a repeating unit thereof, for solar cell or other photo-electric transducer applications. This polyimide compound preferably comprises a repeating unit given by the following chemical formula: where R<1> denotes a tetravalent organic group having 5 to 13 carbons. This polyimide compound may be produced by a dehydrocyclization of a polymer having the repeating unit of the general formula where R<2> is a bivalent organic group of 5 to 13 carbons.
