Jaws (3) and (4) are used to grip the specimen (E) along its breadth and to create the shear by a mutual displacement of the specimen also along its breadth. The jaws are fitted with clamping blocks (36) which can move in the direction of the thickness of the specimen in order to prevent it from buckling.
