METHOD FOR PRODUCTION OF UNSATURATED CARBOXYLIC ACID ESTERS

Production of the corresponding ester of an unsaturated carboxylic acid by the reaction of (meth)acrylic acid with an aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a strongly acidic cation-exchange resin as a catalyst is effected efficient and economically by keeping the reaction solution in a boiling state and, at the same time, keeping the catalyst suspended and dispersed in the reaction solution with a stirrer operated at a required motive force falling in the range of 0.005 to 2kW per m3 of the reaction solution, and optionally refluxing the same alcohol into contact with the vapor containing the water formed by the esterification thereby recovering the (meth)acrylic acid being distilled as entrained by the formed water.
