The frozen product contains between about 50 to 150 ppm chemical oxygen demand (COD), and may be reclaimed. The effluent is indirectly cooled to near freezing and crystallized to obtain a frozen product and a liquid concentrate. The frozen product is separated from the liquid concentrate and then washed.
