The invention relates to a process for isolating indole from a mixture containing it.
<??>According to the invention, the mixture containing indole is brought into contact with a substituted alpha-cyclodextrin in the form of an alpha-cyclodextrin having the hydrogen atom of at least one hydroxyl group substituted by at least one component chosen from the group consisting of a glucosyl group, a maltosyl group, maltooligosaccharide residues, a hydroxyethyl group, a hydroxypropyl group, a methyl group, a sulphone group and carboxyalkyl groups in order to form an inclusion complex of the substituted alpha-cyclodextrin with the indole included, and the indole is extracted from the inclusion complex.
<??>The invention applies in particular to the preparation of starting materials for perfumes (fragrances), for the synthesis of medicaments, of chemical products for agriculture or of dyes.
