Method of renovating a rotor having slip rings for alternators, that is to say a rotor comprising especially a shaft at one end of which is rigidly attached a commutator assembly (10) which includes a body (11) equipped with connection strips (15, 16) coming into contact with slip rings (21, 22) fixed to the said body, the said slip rings having, after wear, a diameter (D') less than their initial diameter (D), characterised in that it consists in covering the slip rings (21, 22) with rings (25, 26) having an external diameter (D) substantially equal to the initial diameter.
