<p>PURPOSE:To achieve deodorization and prevent environmental pollution by providing a packed layer comprising a lower layer having large voids and an upper layer, located on the lower layer, having small voids. CONSTITUTION:Each packed layer is made up of a lower layer A having large voids in which block-like packings 7 or cylindrical packings 8 are arranged and an upper layer B, located on the lower layer, having small voids in which filaments of beet are arranged as packings. Gas of bad smell blown into the lower interior of a treatment column flows upwardly through the packed layers 2, while malodorous components of the gas are oxidized and decomposed by bacteria carried by said layers, so that the gas, treated gas, is discharged from an outlet 4. The malodorous gas, from which malodorous components have been partially removed, flows through the upper layer B, where said gas is brought sufficiently into contact with bacteria carried by the layer, so that the malodorous components are removed. As a result, the packed layers are easily constructed.</p> |
