The invention relates to a method and to a device which are intended for compacting powders, making it possible to obtain homogeneous samples of very high density. The device consists of a cryogenic chamber (11) containing an enclosure (14) in which the powder (17) to be compacted is located, and a second enclosure (19) in which a porous material with a very high adsorption surface (20) is located. As the enclosures are insulated (isolated), a body in the superfluid state is introduced into the first enclosure (14); the suspension obtained is homogeneous and has a reduced viscosity. Then, the enclosures (14) and (19) are placed in contact (21). The superfluid present in the suspension is then sucked by the body (20) and the powder is compacted homogeneously. The method and the device according to the invention are intended for manufacturing materials such as ceramics, special glasses, sintered metals or biomaterials, etc.. <IMAGE>
