PURPOSE: To prepare an alkoxylating catalyst by reacting a catalyst precursor compsn. obtained from a IIA group metal-contg. compsn. with a divalent or polyvalent oxy acid, or a divalent or polyvalent metallic salt of the oxy acid. CONSTITUTION: Divalent or polyvalent metal except for calcium is reacted with an org. compd. having one or more active hydrogen, to prepare a divalent or polyvalent metal-contg. compsn. The divalent or polyvalent metal-contg. compsn. is reacted with a IIA group metal-contg. compsn. under specified conditions, to form a catalyst precursor compsn. Then, the catalyst precursor compsn. is reacted with divalent or polyvalent oxy acid, a divalent or polyvalent metallic salt of the oxy acid or their mixture under specified conditions, to prepare an alkoxylating catalyst. |
