An electrochemical cell (1) of wound configuration, in particular an Li-MnO2 cell of wound configuration, has a separator (10) between the anode (8) and the cathode (9). The separator is formed by a single layer of nonwoven fabric made of polypropylene fibres welded together, the diameter of the fibres being 5 to 10 mu m, preferably approximately 8 mu m. The mass per unit area of the nonwoven fabric is 20 to 60 g.m<-2>, preferably approximately 40 g.m<-2>. The thickness of the nonwoven fabric is 0.1 to 0.4 mm, preferably approximately 0.26 mm. Finally, the air permeability of the nonwoven fabric is 400 to 600 dm<3>.s<-1>.m<2>, preferably 500 dm<3>.s<-1>.m<2> (with a pressure difference of 1 mbar). <IMAGE> |
