PURPOSE:To easily obtain silicon carbide powder at low cost by calcining a mixture of carbonized bamboo powder and volcanic glass deposite powder in an inert gas, pulverizing the calcined body and treating the powder to remove carbon and glass component. CONSTITUTION:Bamboo is pulverized into powder or preliminarily carbonizged and then pulverized, and is mixed with volcanic glass deposite powder, molded and calcined in N2 gas or Ar gas. On calcination, if the powder of raw bamboo is used, the molded body is first carbonized in N2 gas and then calcined. After calcination, the calcined body is pulverized, heated in an oxygen-contg. atmosphere and immersed in hydrogen fluoride so as to remove carbon and the glass component essentially comprising silicon oxide remaining in the calcined body. Thus, the silicon carbide powder of this purpose is obtained. By this method, SiO2 in bamboo and bolcanic glass deposite react with carbonized bamboo to produce SiC. |
