PURPOSE:To insert a linear body smoothly and to make a surplus length thereof appropriate by a method wherein the speed of supply of the linear body to the entrance of the pipe is adjusted to be lower than the speed of conveyance of the linear body by the vibration of a coil. CONSTITUTION:A coil 5 of a pipe 1 is vibrated so that an arbitrary point of the pipe 1 moves forward and backward along a spiral route. A linear body, e.g. an optical fiber 7, advances through the pipe 1. On the occasion, the speed of supply of the optical fiber 7 to the entrance end 3 of the pipe 1 is adjusted to be lower than the speed of conveyance of the optical fiber 7 by the vibration of the coil 5, by an optical fiber supply state detecting device 47. Thereby the optical fiber 7 in the pipe 1 is pulled backward, the undulation of the fiber 7 is made small and friction between the inner surface of the pipe 1 and the peaks of the undulation becomes small as well. According to this constitution, the optical fiber 7 can be inserted smoothly and, besides, a surplus length of the optical fiber 7 inside the pipe 1 can be made appropriate. |
