BATTERY EQUIPPED WITH SAFETY VALVE

PURPOSE:To allow gas in a battery to escape outside of the battery with low pressure and with a quick response even in the event of a rise in gas pressure within the battery due to abnormalities in the battery by using a sealing plate whose cutting edge has U- or V-shaped cross section. CONSTITUTION:In a battery having a sealing lid of structure such that gas in the battery is allowed to escape outside of the battery when a cutting edge cuts into a flexible thin plate which is bent by a rise in gas pressure within the battery, the cutting edge 4 is not flat but has U- or V-shaped cross section. When the cutting edge 4 cuts into the flexible thin plate 7 the thin plate corresponding to the inside of the cutting edge in the form of U or V therefore has a U- or V-shaped notch therein and so the thin plate is extremely easily rolled up by gas pressure within the battery as compared to when the thin plate is rectilinearly notched by conventional flat cutting edges, and the efficiency of gas emission is remarkably enhanced.
