Connector for connecting up an insulated cable to a live bare conductor, of the type including, on the one hand, a metal body ensuring good electrical contact, fitted with a contact cradle in the form of a yoke (stirrup) which is placed over the live bare conductor and with a clamping shoe which bears on the said bare conductor in order to hold the connector against the latter, clamping being performed with the aid of a screw carrying the shoe and, on the other hand, a branch-off unit in which the end of the insulated cable is held, this connector being characterised in that two inserts (small plates) (24, 24') are provided which are positioned in covers (caps) (14, 14'), on each side of the said cradle, and in which the live bare conductor (C) is placed when installing the connector on this conductor, the said inserts being made of elastic material and including hollowed-out side portions (28, 28') so as to ensure damped fitting and centring of the conductors of different diameters and in that the said branch-off unit (12) includes an internal bore (30) receiving the end of the insulated cable (L), this unit being equipped with a helical blade (38) ensuring the perforation of the insulation of the said branched-off cable when tightening the screw (34) of the branch-off unit (12), this screw including a cutting end (36) so as to interact with the perforation of the insulation on the end of the said branched-off cable. <IMAGE>
