PURPOSE:To reproduce a multilevel image with fidelity by computing the density of a picture element to be interpolated by finding a curve representing continuous density change between each picture element by using two picture elements with known density interposing the picture element to be interpolated and another picture element with known density on the same original. CONSTITUTION:When the density levels of continuous four picture elements A-D on a certain line are decided setting the midpoint of the picture elements B and C as the picture element P of an interpolation point, address information 26 to designate all the combinations of the density level that can be searched with the four picture element A-D individually are inputted to a ROM 27. The density level of the picture element P for respective combination of the density level is stored in a storage area corresponding to each address information 26 as interpolation image data 28. Those interpolation image data 28 show the density level of the picture element P of an interpolation point on a three- dimensional curve passing each density level of the picture elements A-D specified with the address information 26. In such a way, it is possible to reproduce the multilevel image with fidelity. |
