<p>A transportable microperfusion device (10) for transporting and maintaining an excised heart for an extended period of time. The heart is suspended in a chamber (50) with the aorta in communication with a bubble trap (70). Perfusate flow from a perfusate reservoir (133) to the bubble trap (70) is maintained by a pumping and flow control system (170). The bubble trap (70) maintains an air-free aortic connection and maintains a column of perfusate sufficient to keep the aortic valve closed, thus allowing perfusate to be forced into the coronary arteries.</p> |
