In a process for sewage-free operation of baths in installations for cathodic electrophoretic enamelling, the binder and/or enamel constituents are dispersed using ultrafiltrate produced during operation of the installations, provided that any lead salts are removed from the ultrafiltrate before use in order to obtain lead-free formulations of lacque.
