PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of a stepping change from an accelerator pedal to a brake pedal by so actuating and controlling an engine throttle valve and a brake respectively as to satisfy specific conditions on the basis of an accelerator pedal stepping force or the like. CONSTITUTION:The stepping force of an accelerator pedal 1 or stepping displacement in an automobile is detected with a stepping force or stepping displacement detection device 2. On the basis of the detected value, an engine throttle valve drive device 4 and a brake fluid pressure generation device 6 are respectively controlled with a control device 3, thereby driving an engine throttle valve 5 and a brake 7 respectively. In this case, when the aforesaid detected value is equal to or above the first predetermined value, the throttle valve 5 is closed. Also, when the value is equal to or above the second larger predetermined value, brake pressure is adjusted, and when the value is less than the second predetermined value, the brake pressure is released. In addition, when the value is equal to or below the third predetermined value near zero, the throttle valve 5 is kept closed.
