<p>A bar code scanner includes a laser source which generates a laser light beam (43) which is intercepted by a beam splitter (50) which divides the laser beam (43) into two secondary light beams (52,62). The secondary light beams (52,62) are projected through respective focusing lenses (56,64) which focus the beams at different focal points. The secondary light beams (52,62) are directed at a beam combiner (60) which combines the two secondary light beams (52,62) into a single scanning light beam (65) which is deflected to form a scanning pattern (97) at a scanning area which will scan a coded bar code label at various distances from the scanner in accordance with the location of the two focal points. <IMAGE></p> |
