PURPOSE:To isomerize acetoxy group and to advantageously produce the title compound useful as an intermediate for antibiotics by treating a 4-(S)-acetoxy-2- azetidinone derivative with an alkali metallic salt of acetic acid or a hydrate thereof. CONSTITUTION:A (4S)-acetoxy-2-azetidinone derivative shown by formula I (R is OH-protecting group) is treated with an alkali metallic salt of acetic acid or a hydrate thereof and the acetoxy group is isomerized to give a (4R)- acetoxy-2-azetidinone derivative shown by formula II. 1mol compound shown by formula I is allowed to react with preferably 1-1.5mol alkali metallic salt of acetic acid or hydrate thereof. The compound shown by formula II is effective as a synthetic intermediate for carbapenem-based or penem-based antibiotics showing strong antimicrobial activity. |
