PRODUCTION OF FIBER-REINFORCED INORGANIC MATERIAL

PURPOSE:To densify the texture and improve the strength and quality of a fiber- reinforced inorganic material by preforming a formed fiber article impregnated with a liquid precursor, heating the preformed product to convert the precursor to a matrix and subjecting the product to thermochemical reaction while impregnating a gaseous material. CONSTITUTION:Plural single fibers 1a are collected to form a formed fiber material 1. Plural fiber materials 1 are laminated and impregnated with a liquid precursor convertible to a matrix by thermal decomposition. The obtained preformed material 2 is placed between the upper mold 4A and the lower mold 4B of the mold 4 having a cavity and compression-molded to obtain a formed article 2. The article 2 is taken out of the mold 4 and heated to decompose the liquid precursor. The liquid precursor is converted to a matrix by this procedure to obtain a porous intermediate formed article 5 containing the 1st matrix texture layer 5a attached to the surface of the single fiber 1a leaving a part of the gap 1b of the formed article 2. The formed product 5 is placed in a reaction furnace 6, a gaseous raw material is introduced through a gas-feeding port 6a and a thermochemical reaction is carried out while impregnating the gaseous raw material into the gap 5b of the texture layer 5a of the formed article 5 to form the 2nd matrix texture layer 7a covering the whole surface of the texture layer 5a.
