PURPOSE:To suppress the generation of thermal stress, etc., and improve the strength, toughness, etc., of the subject material reinforced with heat-resistant fiber embedded in an inorganic matrix layer by placing, between the matrix layer and the fiber, an intermediate composition layer having properties lying between those of the matrix layer and the fiber. CONSTITUTION:A heat-resistant reinforcing fiber 1 (e.g. carbon fiber) is embedded in an inorganic matrix layer 3 (e.g. silicon carbide layer) to reinforce the matrix layer. In the above structure, an intermediate composition layer 2 having properties lying between those of the inorganic matrix layer 3 and the heat- resistant reinforcing fiber 1 (e.g. a mixture of carbon and silicon carbide) is formed between the above components to obtain the objective fiber-reinforced inorganic material. The intermediate composition layer 2 is preferably a mixed composition produced by mixing the composition for matrix layer and the composition for fiber. The ratio of the matrix layer composition is increased near the matrix layer 3 and the fiber composition is increased near the fiber 1. |
