The invention relates to a brake compensating device of a vehicle, this compensating device being governed by the load of the vehicle and being of the type comprising a first piston (14) sliding in a stepped bore made in a body and carrying a flap valve (18) normally open arranged between a pressurised fluid source and the associated brake circuit, the first piston (14) being movable against a spring (16) under the effect of the pressure of the fluid tending to close the flap valve (18), a sliding rod (24) being normally supported between a pushrod (20), the position of which is a function of the load of the vehicle, and the flap valve (18).
<??>According to the invention the compensating device comprises a locking means immobilising the sliding rod (24) as soon as the pressure of the fluid in the associated brake circuit exceeds a predetermined threshold.
