The electronic proximity switch has an oscillator (10) coupled via a switching amplifier to a controlled semiconductor switch, e.g. transistor, thyristor or triac. The oscillator (10) is associated with 2 inductive coils (18,19) connected in series in opposition to one another. The junction between the coils is coupled directly or indirectly to the input of the switching amplifier. Pref. the two series coils (18,19) are connected in a feedback circuit across the output of the oscillator (10). Both coils pref. lie in a common magnetic circuit provided by an E-shaped core.
