摘要 |
A novel cold rolled Fe-Ni alloy sheet of excellent cleanliness and hole etchability has the compsn. (by wt.) 30-45% Ni, 0.1-1.0% Mn, 0.003-0.030% Al, balance Fe and impurities, in which (a) the impurities comprise (by wt.) up to 0.4% Si, upto 0.1% Cr, up to 0.005% C, up to 0.005% N, up to 0.005% S, up to 0.010% P, up to 0.002% O and up to 0.002% (expressed as O) non-metallic inclusions; and (b) the non-metallic inclusions have a CaO, Al2O3 and/or MgO compsn. of particle size up to 6 microns in a melting pt. region of at least 1600 deg. C as determined by the liquidus curve at 1600 deg. C in the ternary CaO-Al2O3-MgO phase diagram. Prodn. of the cold rolled sheet involves (i) dephosphrising and decarburising a molten Fe 30-45% Ni alloy; (ii) adding Al to the molten alloy in a ladle lined with a MgO/20-40 CaO refractory and deoxidising in the presence of a slag comprising at least 57 wt.% CaO+ Al2O3 (the CaO/(CaO+ Al2O3) ratio being at least 0.45), up to 25 wt.% MgO, up to 15 wt.% SiO2 and up to 3 (pref. up to 1.5) wt.% total oxides of metals with oxygen affinities less than that of Si; (iii) casting the melt to ingots; and (iv) cogging, hot rolling and cold rolling to produce sheet contg. up to 0.002 wt.% total (expressed as oxygen) of non-metallic inclusions of up to 6 microns particle size. USE/ADVANTAGE - The sheet is esp. useful for mfr. of shadow masks for high definition television tubes. It produces no defects on etching of perforations and has a low thermal expansion coefficient.
